Position Summary
As a management role, the Database Administrator is accountable for establishing database governance, standards and operational controls while leading the administration, security, availability, performance and recoverability of business-critical databases. The role supports operational applications, integrations, reporting platforms and Data Warehouse environments, and works closely with infrastructure, application, cybersecurity, business intelligence, project teams and vendors to protect data and ensure reliable database services.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain database governance, architecture principles, build standards, naming conventions, operating procedures, documentation, ownership and lifecycle controls.
- Lead the administration, monitoring and support of production, non-production, reporting and Data Warehouse database environments.
- Define and operate backup, restore, retention, replication, high-availability and disaster-recovery controls; schedule and evidence regular recovery tests.
- Monitor database health, availability, capacity and performance; identify root causes, tune SQL and indexes, resolve blocking or resource contention, and prevent recurrence.
- Administer database identities and privileged access using least privilege, segregation of duties, periodic access review and auditable approval processes.
- Coordinate database patching, upgrades, migrations and changes with application, infrastructure, cybersecurity and business teams, including testing, rollback and business communication.
- Support Data Warehouse architecture, data modeling, ETL processes, integrations, reporting workloads and data-quality controls in collaboration with BI and project teams.
- Review database designs, schemas, stored procedures, queries and deployment scripts; provide technical guidance to developers and project teams.
- Lead database incident response, service recovery, stakeholder updates, root-cause analysis and corrective-action tracking for major or recurring incidents.
- Manage database licenses, support contracts, tools, vendors and consulting services; monitor service levels, cost, quality, knowledge transfer and delivery risk.
- Maintain database asset inventories, configuration records, runbooks, recovery procedures, audit evidence, capacity forecasts and management reports.
- Plan workload and resources, set objectives, monitor performance, coach assigned team members and build internal database capability and succession coverage.

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems or a related field
- Strong administration experience with Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL/MariaDB and Oracle,
- Strong knowledge of database installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, migration, consolidation and lifecycle management
- Strong experience with backup, restore, replication, high availability and disaster recovery, including recovery testing against approved RPO and RTO requirements
- Strong capability in performance monitoring, SQL tuning, indexing, execution-plan analysis, capacity planning and troubleshooting
- Good knowledge of database security, privileged access, encryption, auditing, data masking, vulnerability remediation, segregation of duties and compliance controls
- Experience supporting Data Warehouse, ETL, data integration and reporting platforms
- Experience with monitoring and automation tools, PowerShell or similar scripting, and source-controlled database changes
- Strong leadership, vendor management, project management, documentation, communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to provide planned after-hours support and lead recovery for critical database incidents
