Position Summary
The Chief Accountant is responsible for ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and compliance of the Company's accounting and financial reporting. This role leads the accounting team, oversees month-end closing, statutory reporting, tax compliance, and accounting governance while continuously improving accounting processes and internal controls.
Working closely with the Finance Controller, the Chief Accountant translates finance policies into disciplined daily execution and develops a high-performing accounting team.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Closing & Reporting
- Lead the month-end and year-end closing process.
- Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Ensure timely preparation of management and statutory financial reports.
- Maintain the accuracy and completeness of financial records.
- Coordinate year-end audits and external reporting requirements.
2. Financial Statements & Accounting Standards
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with Vietnamese Accounting Standards (VAS).
- Support IFRS reporting and group reporting requirements where applicable.
- Interpret accounting standards and provide appropriate accounting treatments for new or non-routine transactions.
- Maintain accounting policies and documentation.
3. Tax & Statutory Compliance
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of VAT, CIT, PIT, WHT and other statutory filings.
- Review tax calculations and accounting treatments.
- Coordinate tax inspections and external audits.
- Monitor changes in accounting and tax regulations and assess their business impact.
4. Accounting Governance & Internal Control
- Ensure accounting operations comply with the Company's Chart of Authority (CoA), accounting policies and internal procedures.
- Monitor the effectiveness of accounting processes and internal controls, recommending improvements where needed.
- Develop, update and maintain accounting policies, SOPs and standard working procedures to ensure consistent practices across the accounting team.
- Follow up on audit findings and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
5. Team Leadership
- Plan and coordinate day-to-day accounting activities to ensure timely completion of routine deliverables.
- Review the team's work and provide technical guidance on accounting and tax matters.
- Monitor work quality, follow up on outstanding issues and ensure deadlines are met.
- Work with the Finance Controller to identify development needs and improve team capability.
6. Business Partnership
- Support operational departments on accounting and compliance matters.
- Work closely with the Finance Controller to improve financial processes, reporting and governance.
- Participate in system implementation and finance transformation initiatives.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
- Chief Accountant Certificate is required.
- Professional qualification (ACCA, CPA Australia, ICAEW or equivalent) is an advantage.
Experience
- 6–8 years of accounting experience.
- At least 2–3 years leading an accounting team.
- Strong experience in month-end closing, statutory reporting and tax compliance.
- Experience working with external auditors and tax authorities.
- Experience in F&B, retail or multi-site operations is an advantage.
- Exposure to IFRS or group reporting is preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
Technical
- Strong knowledge of VAS and Vietnamese tax regulations.
- Working knowledge of IFRS principles.
- Strong financial statement preparation and analytical skills.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel.
Leadership
- Strong coaching and supervision skills.
- Sound professional judgment.
- High attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize and organize work effectively.
- Effective communication across departments.
- Ability to remain calm and make balanced decisions under pressure.
Success Measures
- Accurate and timely month-end closing.
