Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to lead a small, high-performing data engineering squad. This role requires a strong foundation in data architecture, pipeline infrastructure, and cloud cost optimization (Azure/GCP). The ideal candidate will be experienced in leading migration efforts (especially with Airflow) and managing large-scale data systems using SAP HANA and PostgreSQL.

• Lead a team of 2–3 data engineers, providing technical mentorship and task oversight.
• Design and define scalable, cost-effective data infrastructure and architecture, including data pipelines and orchestration frameworks.
• Drive and execute Airflow migration projects (from legacy schedulers or older versions).
• Optimize data workflows and cloud infrastructure on Azure or GCP, focusing on cost, performance, and reliability.
• Manage end-to-end pipeline development, migration, and monitoring.
• Work with SAP HANA and PostgreSQL for enterprise-scale data storage, transformation, and analytics use cases.
• Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and business teams to ensure data availability and quality.
• Establish and enforce engineering best practices in data governance, monitoring, and CI/CD for data systems. 

Qualifications

•  6+ years of experience in Data Engineering or related roles.
• Proven experience in leading small teams or squads.
• Deep expertise in data architecture design and building scalable data platforms.
•  Strong hands-on experience with Apache Airflow, including migration projects.
• Solid background in cloud platforms: preferably Azure and/or GCP, with a focus on cost optimization techniques.
• Hands-on experience with SAP HANA and PostgreSQL.
•  Proficient in SQL, Python, and pipeline tools (e.g., DBT, Spark, etc.).   
•  Experience in building and maintaining robust data pipelines across heterogeneous systems.
•  Familiarity with modern data stack tools and DevOps for data.

Preferred Qualifications

•  Experience in managing data platform modernization or cloud migrations.
•  Familiarity with data governance and security best practices.
• Certifications in Azure/GCP or data engineering are a plus. 
• You can work hybrid or at VMO's office

Conpensation and benefits

• Fixed Salary: 65-72M (negotiable)
